Mourir demain

Quelle ne fut pas ma surprise hier en écoutant la radio japonaise d'entendre.... Natasha St-Pier!!! C'était le décompte des chansons étrangères et la chanson "mourir demain" a joué. Évidemment, comme c'est toujours le cas, les chansons à la radio joue pour 60 secondes et après, ça coupe!!! Je n'ai toujours pas compris pourquoi!! Je ne sais pas si cette chanson fut un succès au Québec lors de la dernière année étant donné que je n'ai pas mis les pieds au Québec depuis un bon bout de temps! Qui sait, Natasha St-Pier deviendra-t-elle une star du pop japonais??

Shaken et vélo

Au Japon, toutes les voitures doivent passer une inspection toutes les deux ans. L'inspection comme tel est très simple, mais très cher. Car en même temps, on paye une assurance et plusieurs taxes.... La majorité des gens laissent leur voiture au garage et paye entre 1200-1500$Canadiens pour que le shaken soit fait. Le shaken sur ma voiture expire le 6 octobre, donc je devais m'occuper de cela. Mon ami Mike m'a dit que je pouvais sauver la moitié du prix en le faisant moi-même. Donc ce matin, après avoir mangé de la très bonne bouffe vietnamienne chez Jim et Thy (thanks guys), je suis allé passer mon shaken. L'inspection, qui coûte si cher, est en fait, très simple : test de lumière, test de frein, de moteur, inspection de deux minutes sous la voiture et finalement, alignement des lumières.... Le tout fut terminé assez rapidement et je n'ai payé que 800$ pour le tout!! Et mon boss m'a dit que je n'étais même pas obligé de prendre de férié pour!! yahoo!!

Côté vélo, hier j'ai fait une belle randonnée pour l'équinoxe d'automne. En fait, j'ai fait la randonnée que je voulais faire depuis un bon bout de temps!! Monter Hakkoda à vélo. Au programme, 1040 mètres de montée en altitude, des côtes de 16% et 86km de vélo à 23km/h de moyenne!!! En bout de compte, la première partie fut la plus difficile, car les côtes s'enchaînaient de 10-11-13-11-12-16-13 % sans arrêt!!! Par après, ça montait encore, mais un peu plus facile, à mon grand plaisir. Mais j'ai réussi et je suis bien content!!! J'avais mal aux jambes en terminant, mais le onsen m'a permis de relaxer!

This morning, I went for my shaken. I didn't want to pay 13 man for it, so instead of leaving my car at the car shop, I drove myself to Aomori to get the shaken done. Result : 7.6man for everything!!! Couldn't ask for any better deal than that. It is so easy to do, I just had to drive through an alley and follow the instructions!!! Thanks Mike!! I owe you one there.

Yesterday, I rode my bike through the Hakkodas. I started in Shichinohe, went to Yachi, than drove to the 1040meters pass (highest point on the road) and continued towards Sukayu, the ropeway (wished for snow, but it didn't come) and back all the way to Shichinohe. 86kms in all, with hills up to 16% at 23km/h. I was really happy when I got home, but my legs were even happier when I reached Suginoko onsen....

De retour de Fuji

Le weekend passé, je suis allé monté le mont Fuji, la plus haute montagne du Japon. Fuji s'élève à 3776 mètres au dessus du niveau de la mer! Je vous invite à lire mon carnet de voyage de Fuji pour plus de détail!!!

Également, j'ai enfin rajouté des photos du festival de Shichinohe et du surf que j'ai fait cet été dans la section photo. J'ai naturellement aussi plein de photos de Fuji, et j'espère pouvoir faire un court film bientôt à ce sujet.

Last weekend, I went to Mt Fuji with Chris, Eric and Charlie. We had a lot of fun on this road trip. It all started with Charlie's yakisubi. The yaki stands for "grill" and the subi for subaru. All the food we cooked during the weekend was cooked on Charlie's car engine. We had delicious teriyaki chicken, lemon & pepper salmon, aubergine, corn and bacon. It was delicious!!!
Beside the fact that we drove through Tokyo (50km in 3 hours), the driving part was great (Fuck Tokyo). We got at Fuji around 5pm Saturday and started to climb at 8pm. We took several small breaks during our hike, but we never got in a hut, cause they were too expansive (7000yen or so). Instead, we slept for an hour around the 7th station and than another one on the summit. The weather was great all night until 3am. This is when things got worst. Cause of this, we hit the summit, but couldn't see the sunrise on top. There was nothing to see except clouds, clouds and clouds. Moreover, we couldn't walk around the crater and didn't go to the real summit, on the other side of the mountain. On the way down, we caught the sunrise and it was pretty nice.

A proverb says : A man can climb Fuji once, but only a fool climbs it twice. Well, I might be in the second category. Since I haven't seen everything I wanted up there, I might go back again to complete unfinished business between that big mountain and I. I felt great on the top and didn't feel bad cause of the altitude.We'll see if the occasion comes around. Hockey et Fuji

Hier, j'ai écouté la finale de la Coupe du monde avec Mike et Joji, et une gang de Japonais qui ne connaissaient rien au hockey! On s'était arrangé tous les trois pour ne pas savoir le score du match, étant donné que nous avons écouté le match en différé de 12 heures!!! Go Canada Go!!! Dommage que ce soit le dernier match de hockey pour une éternité!!

Demain, vendredi, je pars avec trois amis à la conquête de la plus haute montagne du Japon, le Mont Fuji (3776m). Nous allons commencé à monter samedi soir pour parvenir au sommet pour le lever du soleil dimanche matin!!! Et comme lundi est férié, nous allons revenir tranquillement de ce road trip!! Je vous donne plus de nouvelles la semaine prochaine.

Well, finally, Canada won the World Cup yesterday. It wasn't a great game, but it was still pretty good hockey! And the last game for a while!!!
Tomorrow, Eric, Chris Hainge, Charlie and I are leaving Aomori for a road trip to Mt Fuji. We will climb it Saturday night and watch the sunrise from the top Sunday morning. It should be a hell of a trip! I'll post more about it after!!!

Les festivals sont terminés

Enfin, en effet. Bien que j'aime bien participer, j'aime la diversité et aller dans des festivals tous les weekends, c'est pas toujours intéressants. Heureusement, vendredi passé, mon travail consistait à participer au festival de Tohoku, avec des profs de l'école. On a transporté une mikoshi (petit temple portatif, mais TRES lourd) devant la parade! Samedi, j'aurais pu aller au festival de Towada et faire la même chose, mais j'étais un peu tanné, donc je suis allé au cinéma à la place!

En temps qu'amateur de hockey, je lis avec une grande attention toutes les nouvelles de la Coupe du monde, en espérant que le Canada puisse battre les Finlandais mardi!!! Go Canada go!!!

Last Friday, I went to work in Tohoku. As you all know, working as a JET is a very hard job, but working and participating in a festival is even.... harder!!! Not really, except that the mikoshi was bloody heavy!! I had a lot of fun with the teachers at my school, but I'm now happy that the "season of festival" is over! I had enough!!!

For all you Canadians ( i.e. hockey fans), if you want to watch the final of the World Cup, you're all welcome to come to Shichinohe Wednesday night. The game is live in the morning, but I'll tape it and watch it in a small bar from 8:30PM. It should be a great game against the Finns!! Please don't check internet during the day if you do come and watch the game!! Trust me, knowing the score before watching it, it's ain't the same. And also, I'll leave my "fleur de lys" flag inside for a day and will get that "chiffon rouge" out of the locker for the occasion.

Shichinohe o matsuri

Apres 4 jours de festival, la ville reprend son air calme jusqu'au prochain gros événement... le festival l'an prochain...;) Je me suis bien amusé ce weekend avec mes amis ici. Après la parade de jeudi soir, il y en a eu une autre vendredi après-midi, samedi après-midi ( une de costumes) et finalement, la grande finale d'hier. Naturellement, après chaque événement, la bière coulait à flot et il y avait de la bouffe en surabondance!!! le tout gratuit! En fait, je ne me suis pas fait à souper depuis une semaine je crois. Dimanche matin, je suis aussi allé à Hachinohe écrire un premier examen depuis... longtemps. Mon premier test de japonais qui fut assez difficile. Ça sert plutôt de pratique pour mon vrai test de japonais qui aura lieu, lui, le 5 décembre!

Since most ALTs went to Misawa last weekend for the airshow ( and J-Draws, you perverts.... ) I could enjoyed a "japanese" weekend with Shichinohe's festival. Ok... yes, they look all the same. I went to Kamikita last week and I'll be in Tohoku Friday, but Shichinohe is always a lot of fun cause I know many people in the town. But unless you know people around to have fun and party, there is not much difference between the other matsuri!!! Maybe except the fact that the area where I live did make their own float and didn't rent it like others.... pictures will come later this week.

festival de Shichinohe

Depuis hier soir, jeudi, c'est le festival de Shichinohe, là où j'habite. Depuis deux semaines, les jeunes pratiquaient le taiko ( tambour) en vue de ce weekend. Hier soir, on a eu droit au concours des différents quartier de la ville et à une première parade!!! Et ca va continuer tout le weekend!!!

This Land

This week, it is the festival in town, so I'll be busy around here all weekend. One of those few weekends I'm not going anywhere in the ken.
The main event of the last week was the typhoon #16. Compared to the hurricanes names back in Canada and the states, the Japanese should be a bit more creative when it is time to give a name to typhoons. Anyway, it was suppose to hit Aomori Tuesday afternoon. All my students were looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it missed Aomori and went directly to Hokkaido... zan nen!!

C'est semaine de festival à Shichinohe. Le tout débute demain soir, jeudi par un concours de tambour (taiko) et une parade. Chaque quartier de la ville participe et la plus part ont construit eux même leurs chars allégoriques. Je vous montrerai une photo de celui de mon quartier une autre fois, mais je peux vous dire que c'est très joli, après deux mois de travail!!!
Autrement, pas grand chose de neuf sinon que le typhon numéro 16 a manqué Aomori mardi après-midi. C'était supposé être le plus fort de l'année à date, mais il est passé au Nord-Ouest de chez moi! Disons que mes élèves étaient pas mal déçus.
